Effective bathroom lighting will provide enough light to carry out activities such as applying makeup, brushing teeth, shaving as well as illuminating the entire space. The most popular choice of colour temperature for a bathroom is either cool while (bright white) or daylight. This temperature gives the most accurate visibility of skin tone and colouring and will provide a good balanced bathroom lighting design.
Not only are LEDs energy–saving and convenient because you don’t have to replace the bulbs for years, but they are minimal in appearance so you can get a more clean–lined, modern look in the bathroom. Plus, today’s LEDs have more wattage and the light quality is a lot warmer than before, which means you have a more cohesive look when combining them with incandescent bulbs.
Therefore, it’s a good idea to provide a low-wattage light source that either is on all night or that responds to motion. Many exhaust fan/lights have such a feature, or you could wire some step lights in the wall, or simply purchase some plug-in motion-sensor nightlights.
A good lighting plan is a series of layers — placing ample light where it is needed for showers, shaving, or putting on makeup, for instance, while other light sources enhance the overall mood of the room.
