Sometimes, a DIY project can be as simple as using an object for a purpose other than what it was created for. Namely, the IKEA spice racks. They make a great set of shelves to hold bottles and boxes in the bathroom.
For open floor plans, for example, let the shelves wrap around the corners and create a continuous design meant to connect two different zones. They’ll look interesting and they’ll be very functional at the same time.
The shelf can be a freestanding piece. It doesn’t have to be a continuation of the sink or vanity. It can be made of glass, like in this case, if you want it to stand out as little as possible and to be versatile. Glass is a good option in this case also because of the color palette.
In order to make the most of your vanity, you can opt for the design that incorporates drawers and open shelving. This way, while the very personal items you don’t want in public glare goes into the drawers, your towels and other toiletries can be kept in the open shelves. If you choose to, you can add glass coverings to these open shelves to make it more functional – exhibiting the items there and also protecting them from dust and unauthorized usage. Remember not to cram the open shelves with unnecessary items.
