While grand bathrooms with expansive skylights often make up product brochures and magazine covers, the smaller units that light up the tiny bathrooms are the real workhorses. If you have a dark, small bathroom with no windows, a skylight is the best way to really enliven the place. If a direct skylight is not possible, then at least explore the possibility of a tubular sun tunnel skylight to illuminate the small area. Remember that the skylight also makes the room appear a lot more visually airy, as it brings a part of the outdoors inside. This is a benefit that simply no pendant or chandelier can offer!
Modern ceilings can do a whole lot more than just provide a plain white roof. With the amazing number of designs on offer and the way in which architects are playing with both form and function, you can obviously include beautiful LED lighting units as part of an elaborate and exquisite roof design.
Once your primer is dry, you can repaint your bathroom walls and ceiling in any color you choose. But it's important to choose the right type of paint if you want to prevent peeling and flaking in the future. Look for a formula marked specifically for use in bathrooms. This type of paint has a high-gloss or semigloss finish and is washable. It also doesn't absorb moisture as readily as other types of paint, so it stands up to humidity well. If you're worried about stains, opt for a paint designed to resist mildew.
If you have short ceilings and want to make your small bathroom seem taller, paint vertical stripes on the walls. As we just went over, paint colors help guide the eye throughout the room. With vertical stripes, the human eye is guided up and around the room. This, in turn makes it feel larger than it really is.
