The new neutral will have to make way for some organic colors of nature–greens, blues, and warm browns. Expect to see more attempts to bring the outdoors indoors through plants, flowers, and even grass. As for materials–brick, reclaimed wood, and natural stone will find more uses in the bathroom.
This is a bathroom remodeling project my handyman business did for a customer. As the client traveled a lot, we worked with a decorator to help them pick colors quickly. The customer wanted blue, and with the help of the decorator, he picked a sky blue. However, bathrooms can be baffling, and even with the help of a decorator, the most careful planning doesn't always work.
Other companions to scaled-down bathrooms include space-saving walk-in showers, more shelving instead of cabinets and large floating vanities to increase the perception of space. As with large bathrooms, small bathrooms can also be decked out in wall patterns or interesting floor graphics especially those that make the room feel bigger.
Flooring is quite important in a bathroom. If you have an older bathroom, it may still have colorful linoleum. A more modern space likely has something resembling tile or hardwood. Often, the flooring is the most dramatic permanent feature in the room. Choose a color that complements your flooring, but do not try to match it exactly, because that is nearly impossible to do.
